Kurt Tham showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Norman Mabalane, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. Horea Vulcănescu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Kurt Tham made a huge save. Göran Arenstedt hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. In the 17th minute of the match, Horea Vulcănescu got a very nice opportunity to score, but Kurt Tham was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After some careless play in the Galatasaray GS defense, John Jernberg kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Kurt Tham. The Galatasaray GS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kurt Tham should have stopped the shot. Galatasaray GS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave G A I S the free kick. In the 39th minute, John Jernberg left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The G A I S fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-0. Kurt Tham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cléber Marinho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 44 minutes Galatasaray GS's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Cléber Marinho who took care of the corner kick. At last the ball reached John Jernberg at the corner, ending with a kick to difficult to stop for the goalkeeper of Galatasaray GS. 8-0. In the 47th minute Arne Stensson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kurt Tham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 8-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Horea Vulcănescu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Arne Stensson scored 14-0 in the 79th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Kurt Tham, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the match had gone on for 82 minutes, John Jernberg put it in 15-0 from a short distance just to the right of Kurt Tham. In the 84th minute Horea Vulcănescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kurt Tham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kurt Tham made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horea Vulcănescu in the 90th minute of play. Kurt Tham showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John Jernberg in the 92nd minute of the match. After 93 minutes of play, G A I S's Arne Stensson made it 17-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kurt Tham was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Horea Vulcănescu in the 96th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kurt Tham saved Galatasaray GS from getting behind. There was no doubt that G A I S were the better team. G A I S's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
