The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 20th minute of the game. One of Formsvacka FF:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of VfL Wolfsburg:s goal. In the 23rd minute of the match VfL Wolfsburg got a corner. Formsvacka FF's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Hannes Ström ran over to the corner to take the kick. 32 minutes into the match, VfL Wolfsburg's goal looked a bit too open when Niklas Jönsson came free, but Olle Tunander reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jörn Strömberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gösta Granberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Hannes Ström sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The wind increased when Gösta Granberg made the kick off in the second half. In the 59th minute, Gösta Granberg left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The VfL Wolfsburg fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. VfL Wolfsburg were furious when Bertil Fanström was red carded, 63 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Olle Tunander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kjell-Arne Bengtsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. After having played for 85 minutes, Niklas Jönsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Formsvacka FF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Niklas Jönsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, VfL Wolfsburg's Martin Hedlund got a free kick in the 90th minute. If Gösta Granberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. VfL Wolfsburg walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
