Gualterio Aguirre's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Miguel Ángel Santoro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. Atletico Patoruzu were awarded a corner in the 40th minute after C. A. Independiente's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Roberto Perfumo took the corner. After taking down the ball on Atletico Patoruzu's corner Roberto Perfumo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Miguel Ángel Santoro quite easily take care of the ball. 45 minutes into the match, Atletico Patoruzu's Gualterio Aguirre sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Miguel Ángel Santoro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 46th minute, Claudio Arzeno hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 47 minutes, Gualterio Aguirre managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atletico Patoruzu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gualterio Aguirre was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Atletico Patoruzu made a substitution. Teobaldo Gaizkine replaced Marcelo-Luis Butcher. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Rene Harman to strike the kick off in the second half. If Rene Harman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Atletico Patoruzu's Diego Latorre was substituted for Rene Harman. Diego Latorre blasted a shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Miguel Ángel Santoro having to make a save. Miguel Ángel Santoro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teobaldo Gaizkine in the 85th minute of play. Atletico Patoruzu's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Roberto Perfumo in the 87th minute. A collision led to C. A. Independiente getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Gilbert Guzman hit a great ball. Gualterio Aguirre might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Miguel Ángel Santoro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gualterio Aguirre ran back to his position shaking his head. Atletico Patoruzu walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
