If Akis Kefallinos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Maciej Jankowski took the ball and in the 16 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ignatius Casasola. Ignatius Casasola dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. AJAX's Igor Zambujal proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save AJAX from getting a goal against them. Ignatius Casasola stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Maciej Jankowski's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. With a little luck, AJAX's Igor Zambujal got control of the ball when Edgar Costa tried to sneak it across the goal line. Edgar Costa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 28th minute of the match, but Igor Zambujal made a huge save. 28 minutes into the match, AJAX's goal looked a bit too open when Edgar Costa came free, but Igor Zambujal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Maciej Jankowski's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ignatius Casasola read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. In the 34th minute, Maciej Jankowski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cassiano Telinhos made in the 36th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by AJAX's Carlos Poças. Maciej Jankowski recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ignatius Casasola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maciej Jankowski in the 48th minute of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Maciej Jankowski stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Maciej Jankowski could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Ignatius Casasola made a huge save. The supporters of AJAX booed when Garanhão do SUL was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edgar Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Maciej Jankowski received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Ignatius Casasola came out and tried to block the shot, but Maciej Jankowski slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 65th minute. The audience was convinced that Edgar Costa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Igor Zambujal was relentless in the 68th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Virgílio Teves in the 71st minute of play forced AJAX's goalkeeper Igor Zambujal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Garanhão do SUL's Aloísio Garcez got a free kick in the 73rd minute. Garanhão do SUL's André Roriz was substituted for Edgar Costa. After 74 played minutes Garanhão do SUL got a freekick which was hit by Aloísio Garcez. After some careless play in the Garanhão do SUL defense, Maciej Jankowski kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ignatius Casasola. The Garanhão do SUL fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ignatius Casasola should have stopped the shot. The audience was convinced that Torcato Rebocho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Igor Zambujal was relentless in the 77th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, AJAX's Ali Kağan Güzir got a free kick in the 78th minute. Igor Zambujal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from André Roriz, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Igor Zambujal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Albano Leizarraga in the 83rd minute of the match. In the 86th minute, Torcato Rebocho made a precise shot to the right of Igor Zambujal. AJAX's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3. A sloppy throw-in by Aloísio Garcez in the 89th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by AJAX's Carlos Poças. Ignatius Casasola made a fantastic save in the 96th minute, when Maciej Jankowski sent off a good shot on target. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched AJAX eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
