The supporters of FC Wil 1900 booed when FC Lugano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Palmiro Brennwald didn't get a good kick on the ball. 32 minutes into the match, Ezio Gøl notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of FC Lugano's Dieter Gärtner. Dieter Gärtner was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Téo Rosa scored 0-4 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dieter Gärtner, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the FC Lugano defense, Ezio Gøl kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dieter Gärtner. The FC Lugano fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dieter Gärtner should have stopped the shot. Dieter Gärtner showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Téo Rosa in the 41st minute of the match. A nice corner shot did that Emery Heller got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Dieter Gärtner quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After the first half FC Wil 1900 were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Pornsak Seearamrungruang made a kick off. FC Lugano's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Stephen Vicente in the 54th minute. Lionel Paly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gian-Carlo Van Den Maagdenberg in the 55th minute of the match. 56 minutes into the match, Pirmin Jäggi dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Dieter Gärtner, 0-6. 59 minutes into the match, FC Lugano's goalkeeper Dieter Gärtner had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ezio Gøl. Lionel Paly showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gian-Carlo Van Den Maagdenberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. In the 69th minute, Ezio Gøl made a precise shot to the right of Dieter Gärtner. FC Lugano's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-7. FC Wil 1900's Alex Leisibach was substituted for Ezio Gøl. FC Wil 1900's Sobah Rico was substituted for İlkan Mahşer. Alex Leisibach could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Dieter Gärtner made a huge save. FC Lugano's Dieter Gärtner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Téo Rosa in the 81st minute of play. Dieter Gärtner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Téo Rosa in the 82nd minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as FC Wil 1900's Pirmin Jäggi slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Dieter Gärtner. That made the score 0-8 after 83 minutes of play. FC Lugano's Dieter Gärtner proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 88th minute of the match, managed to save FC Lugano from getting a goal against them. In the 90th minute of the match, Emery Heller tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Dieter Gärtner saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 91st minute Pirmin Jäggi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dieter Gärtner saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. FC Lugano's defense didn't have a chance, in the 93rd minute, when Emery Heller scored to the left of an out of position Dieter Gärtner, making the score, 0-9. 95 minutes into the game, Pornsak Seearamrungruang was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Lugano's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Wil 1900 the free kick. After 95 played minutes FC Lugano got a freekick which was hit by Pornsak Seearamrungruang. Pirmin Jäggi scored 0-10 in the 97th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dieter Gärtner, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
