An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulino Lamberto in the 8th minute of play forced Congo Bongo's goalkeeper Máté Márton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind San Martin de Tucuman's goalkeeper Cecilio Jax, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cecilio Jax made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kaj-Åke Kaká in the 12th minute of play. In the 12th minute, Kaj-Åke Kaká ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cecilio Jax was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 17th minute, Ubaldo Veto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 18th minute Damaso Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cecilio Jax saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 20thth minute of the game Paulino Lamberto who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Congo Bongo's Máté Márton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Damaso Sancho might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cecilio Jax. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Damaso Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 36th minute of the match San Martin de Tucuman got a corner. Congo Bongo's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Anastasio Amesti ran over to the corner to take the kick. Congo Bongo's Damaso Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gonzalo Cucho kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. San Martin de Tucuman's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Anastasio Amesti in the 42nd minute. After 44 played minutes, Congo Bongo's Franz Beckenbauer shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Cecilio Jax came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Congo Bongo reached it. Paulino Lamberto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Máté Márton made a huge save. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcial Munio to make the kick off. San Martin de Tucuman's Cecilio Jax played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Damaso Sancho in the 62nd minute of play. 64 minutes into the match, Congo Bongo's goal looked a bit too open when Marcial Munio came free, but Máté Márton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ubaldo Veto hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. San Martin de Tucuman made a substitution. Pipis Vattimos replaced Effiong Adebiyi. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Congo Bongo walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
