The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Sixto Aimar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcelo Goito took the ball and in the 9 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Miguel Orlondon. Miguel Orlondon dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. When Cayetano Cordeiro came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the New Pi fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cayetano Cordeiro couldn't finish the play. Zé Paulo Mendes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from CJ Riquelme in the 16th minute of play. New Pi's Zé Paulo Mendes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save New Pi from getting a goal against them. If Marcelo Goito had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zé Paulo Mendes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gonzalo Chesus in the 30th minute of play. In the 33rd minute Marcelo Goito shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Orlondon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. New Pi's Zé Paulo Mendes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save New Pi from getting a goal against them. Miguel Orlondon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcelo Goito in the 37th minute of the match. Miguel Orlondon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcelo Goito, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Perros del sur's zone, Marcelo Goito stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Miguel Orlondon came out of the goal and Marcelo Goito tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. New Pi's Cayetano Cordeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 47 minutes into the game, Gonzalo Chesus cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Zé Paulo Mendes was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The throw-in from Fabio Frisco in the 54th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Perros del sur's Teodosio Goren. Donato Viator fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zé Paulo Mendes having to interfere. Perros del sur's Miguel Orlondon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelo Goito in the 57th minute of play. In the 67th minute, New Pi's Marcelo Goito dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. After 76 minutes Perros del sur's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Generoso Artizar who took care of the corner kick. A collision led to Perros del sur getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Teodosio Goren hit a great ball. Miguel Orlondon made an important save on a dangerous shot by Marcelo Goito in the 79th minute. After a rather tough play, Perros del sur's Mario Mandzukic got a free kick in the 86th minute. After having played for 87 minutes, Cayetano Cordeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. New Pi's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cayetano Cordeiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Shaun Jackson hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. 95 minutes into the match, New Pi's goal looked a bit too open when Mario Mandzukic came free, but Zé Paulo Mendes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Perros del sur's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Teodosio Goren in the 97th minute. 98 minutes into the game, Jose Eriz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Perros del sur's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave New Pi the free kick. After 98 played minutes Perros del sur got a freekick which was hit by Jose Eriz. The Perros del sur manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing New Pi to win.
