The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Adriano Heggli during the 5th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 5th minute, Adriano Heggli hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Waldemar Liberko made a great header on Borussia Dortmund's corner, it was just that FC Ruh Lviv's Marcelo Barovero managed to reach the ball for a save. Zé Tola sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Zé Tola to strike the kick off in the second half. After recieving a nice pass, FC Ruh Lviv's Vyacheslav Androsenko tried to score from far away in the 80th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 85 minutes into the game, Pavlo Paraschiy was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Ruh Lviv's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Borussia Dortmund the free kick. Borussia Dortmund's Rainer Katechetin got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Marcelo Barovero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ronny Gantenbein in the 95th minute of the match. The Borussia Dortmund players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
