Roman Diaz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zachariasz Psotka, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. 6 minutes into the game, one of Alfonso Ugarte:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 13th minute, Universitario's Lionel-Andrés Newell dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. A sloppy throw-in by Roland Treceño in the 17th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Universitario's Ladislao Asur. In the 18th minute, Ladislao Asur hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Alfonso Ugarte's goalkeeper Celso de Carvalho, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 21st minute Lionel-Andrés Newell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Celso de Carvalho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Níels Nesta in the 23rd minute of play forced Universitario's goalkeeper Roman Diaz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Celso de Carvalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lionel-Andrés Newell in the 24th minute of play. 26 minutes into the match, Lionel-Andrés Newell notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Alfonso Ugarte's Celso de Carvalho. Celso de Carvalho was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 31st minute, Pierres Baz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Alfonso Ugarte fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. Celso de Carvalho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lionel-Andrés Newell in the 36th minute. The Universitario fans' excitement grew in the 38th match minute when Universitario's Lionel-Andrés Newell looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 4-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 44 minutes into the match, Alfonso Ugarte's goal looked a bit too open when Eneto Barrachina came free, but Celso de Carvalho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 5-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lionel-Andrés Newell to make the kick off. The audience was convinced that Lionel-Andrés Newell's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Celso de Carvalho was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. After 55 played minutes Universitario got a freekick which was hit by Douglas de Mendonça. Universitario's Salvador Montrell was substituted for Aquilino Masdeu. 67 minutes into the match, Alfonso Ugarte's goal looked a bit too open when Lionel-Andrés Newell came free, but Celso de Carvalho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 68 minutes Alfonso Ugarte's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Carlos Zambrano who took care of the corner kick. After some careless play in the Alfonso Ugarte defense, Lionel-Andrés Newell kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Celso de Carvalho. The Alfonso Ugarte fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Celso de Carvalho should have stopped the shot. After 72 minutes, Roland Treceño mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Alfonso Ugarte and the Universitario players grew even worse after the yellow card. Roland Treceño kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. 73 minutes into the match, Alfonso Ugarte's goal looked a bit too open when Lionel-Andrés Newell came free, but Celso de Carvalho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Lionel-Andrés Newell blasted a shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Celso de Carvalho having to make a save. Alfonso Ugarte's Celso de Carvalho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lionel-Andrés Newell in the 84th minute of play. If Lionel-Andrés Newell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Celso de Carvalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lionel-Andrés Newell in the 86th minute of play. Lionel-Andrés Newell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. For all the effort they put into the match, the Alfonso Ugarte players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Universitario.
