The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jon Iruegas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mohieddine Ayari in the 3rd minute of play. In the 5th minute Mohieddine Ayari shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jon Iruegas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of CERRO PORTEÑO booed when Sporting Cristal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hüseyin Turan Elçibey didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 15 played minutes CERRO PORTEÑO got a freekick which was hit by Barto Crespo. After 17 played minutes Sporting Cristal got a freekick which was hit by Ludomil Kolba. After having played for 21 minutes, Hüseyin Turan Elçibey managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting Cristal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hüseyin Turan Elçibey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 24th minute, Mohieddine Ayari left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The CERRO PORTEÑO fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Jiang Lei made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Fernanco Peso sent off a good shot on target. Jiang Lei didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 31st minute, which inside left pole to 1-1. 35 minutes into the match, CERRO PORTEÑO's goalkeeper Jiang Lei had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernanco Peso. The wind increased when Fernanco Peso made the kick off in the second half. Mohieddine Ayari might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jon Iruegas. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mohieddine Ayari ran back to his position shaking his head. Fernanco Peso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Fernanco Peso's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jiang Lei read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 65th minute of play. Sporting Cristal's Claudinei Suarbol was substituted for Ivon Curiel. In the 75th minute, Fernanco Peso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jiang Lei was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. CERRO PORTEÑO's Jiang Lei played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernanco Peso in the 83rd minute of play. In the 87th minute, Eusebiu Cimpoi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eusebiu Cimpoi kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. In the 89th minute Christian Luciano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jiang Lei saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Hüseyin Turan Elçibey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jiang Lei made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christian Luciano in the 95th minute of play.
