Jon Iruegas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilesindo Tarapiella in the 10th minute of the match. The throw-in from Frederico Freijo in the 14th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Sporting Cristal's Ludomil Kolba. In the 15th minute, Sporting Cristal's Fernanco Peso dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. Fernanco Peso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Caaguazu's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Cazimir Gogea ran over to the corner to take the kick. Sporting Cristal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fernanco Peso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hüseyin Turan Elçibey fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Olo Uriarte having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jorge Torcida in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jon Iruegas saved Sporting Cristal from getting behind. In the 44th minute, Juango Camposa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fernanco Peso was the one to do the kick off. Sporting Cristal made a substitution. Christian Luciano replaced Ronaldão Nogueira. Olo Uriarte showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernanco Peso in the 56th minute of the match. Sporting Cristal were awarded a corner in the 58th minute after Caaguazu's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Cazimir Gogea took the corner. Fernanco Peso took the ball and in the 60 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Olo Uriarte. Caaguazu's Blai Arismendi was substituted for Frederico Freijo. 68 minutes into the match, Fernanco Peso had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Olo Uriarte. Caaguazu's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fernanco Peso was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. With an all-out effort, Caaguazu's Jon Iruegas threw himself towards the right post 74 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jorge Torcida, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Olo Uriarte made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernanco Peso in the 75th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 79 minutes, Jorge Torcida took a quick shot and it went in 4-1 without a chance for Jon Iruegas to make any attempt to save it. Sporting Cristal's Frank Tassotti was substituted for Delfino Rosario. Jon Iruegas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jorge Torcida, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 87 minutes had been played when some careless play by Sporting Cristal's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gary Ayala was slow to take the kick. During this time Caaguazu's players had a chance to rest. After some careless play in the Caaguazu defense, Hüseyin Turan Elçibey kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Olo Uriarte. The Caaguazu fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Olo Uriarte should have stopped the shot. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sporting Cristal fans cheered their team off the field, for while Caaguazu had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
