In the 4th minute, Alfredo Martins made a precise shot to the right of Marcos Buffon. AVAÍ F.C.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. In the 8thth minute of the game Dario Alegría who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Alex Sági's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dida Taffarel was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. When AVAÍ F.C.'s Dario Alegría in the 13th minute got a chance for a shot 13th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 35th minute Alex Sági shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. AVAÍ F.C. were awarded a corner in the 40th minute after Marquês de Herval's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Alex Sági took the corner. A very nice done corner allowed Luiz Pombal to score against Dida Taffarel in Marquês de Herval's goal. 2-1 after 40 minutes. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Alfredo Martins made the kick off in the second half. In the 51stth minute of the game Dario Alegría who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Walmyr Salles sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, AVAÍ F.C.'s Marcos Buffon got control of the ball when Dorian Moraes tried to sneak it across the goal line. AVAÍ F.C.'s Rubens Cabral was substituted for Tarcisio Chaves. AVAÍ F.C. made a substitution. Claus Van De Wiele replaced Luiz Pombal. 83 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goal looked a bit too open when Dario Alegría came free, but Dida Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Marquês de Herval getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Daniel Endura hit a great ball. In the 90th minute Alex Sági shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. German Cano hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. When the referee ended the match the AVAÍ F.C. players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
