Dorian Machado made a fantastic save in the 7th minute, when Raí Prestes sent off a good shot on target. In the 8th minute, Jano Mattos made a precise shot to the right of Nando Sena. Independente FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. The supporters of Locomotiva grena booed when Independente FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Fernando de Toledo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dorian Machado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Marquez in the 14th minute of play. Hélio Arósio hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Dorian Machado made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nilson Duarte in the 19th minute. In the 20th minute, Osvaldo Soares ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nando Sena was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 25th minute Raí Prestes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dorian Machado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Locomotiva grena's Dorian Machado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Marquez in the 27th minute of play. Dorian Machado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raí Prestes, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Perivaldo Paulista managed to get in a good position for a shot. Locomotiva grena's supporters rose to their feet, but Perivaldo Paulista was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nando Sena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Raí Prestes got free with Dorian Machado in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Raí Prestes was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Dorian Machado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luiz Marquez, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. After some careless play in the Locomotiva grena defense, Raí Prestes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dorian Machado. The Locomotiva grena fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dorian Machado should have stopped the shot. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Osvaldo Soares to make the kick off. In the 54th minute, Osvaldo Soares hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dorian Machado took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raí Prestes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 56 minutes into the game, Osvaldo Soares was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Locomotiva grena's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independente FC the free kick. After a rather tough play, Locomotiva grena's Osvaldo Soares got a free kick in the 56th minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 57 minutes into the game, when Luiz Eduardo Vinhas put in a rough tackle. Dorian Machado went to the wrong direction when Luiz Marquez was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. In the 62nd match minute, Locomotiva grena was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fabiano Albuquerque to maneuver through the defense. Dorian Machado came out of the goal in the 63rd minute to try and stop a shot by Independente FC's Luiz Marquez. But to his dismay, Luiz Marquez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2. After 66 played minutes Locomotiva grena got a freekick which was hit by Hélio Arósio. Fabiano Albuquerque hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Luiz Marquez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Álvaro Matos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independente FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Álvaro Matos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dorian Machado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 73 minutes of play, Independente FC's Luiz Marquez made it 4-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dorian Machado was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 76th minute Raí Prestes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dorian Machado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Locomotiva grena getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Jano Mattos hit a great ball. The corner led Locomotiva grena's Perivaldo Paulista to fire away a dangerous shot which Nando Sena despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 85th minute, Nilson Duarte got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dorian Machado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nilson Duarte in the 90th minute of play. Dorian Machado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Marquez in the 94th minute of play. After 98 minutes, Raí Prestes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Independente FC and the Locomotiva grena players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 98th minute, Raí Prestes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Independente FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
