With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luís Gustavo do Nascimento prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Leonel Paranaense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Luiz Paulo Mazza made a huge save. 40 minutes into the match, Wellington Phoenix's goal looked a bit too open when Dino Tavares came free, but Luiz Paulo Mazza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dino Tavares in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luiz Paulo Mazza saved Wellington Phoenix from getting behind. The supporters of Nova Venécia-ES booed when Wellington Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zé Carlos Dias didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The corner led Wellington Phoenix's Tadeu Zonta to fire away a dangerous shot which Luís Gustavo do Nascimento despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The audience was convinced that Natã Quintal's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Luiz Paulo Mazza was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game. 詹俊 á Bø fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Gustavo do Nascimento having to interfere.
