The audience thought a goal was coming when Diamantino Cabral got free with Tomé Montenegro in the 6th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ferreira Lopes MZC's Tomé Montenegro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 8th minute of the match, managed to save Ferreira Lopes MZC from getting a goal against them. Darío Pereyra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Tomé Montenegro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 23 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's Darío Pereyra sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tomé Montenegro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Ferreira Lopes MZC's Dedé Paiva got a free kick in the 24th minute. In the 32nd minute Pipis Karapatakis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tomé Montenegro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tomé Montenegro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pipis Karapatakis in the 34th minute of play. Tomé Montenegro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kaká Rot, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Grêmio FBPA's Kaká Rot in the 35th minute got a chance for a shot 35th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ferreira Lopes MZC's goalie prevented a goal. Pipis Karapatakis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Tomé Montenegro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tomé Montenegro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Darío Pereyra in the 40th minute of the match. Anísio Lucas was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 43 minutes into the match. When the match had been going on for 44 minutes, Grêmio FBPA's Filiph Biörling got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Tomé Montenegro.

Ferreira Lopes MZC's Herald Depauw was substituted for Luka Beaugendre. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pipis Karapatakis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jardel Sanches came out of the goal in the 53rd minute to try and stop a shot by Ferreira Lopes MZC's Ronaldo Alcântara. But to his dismay, Ronaldo Alcântara quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Humberto Locaio made in the 56th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Ferreira Lopes MZC's Herald Depauw. Herald Depauw blasted a shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jardel Sanches having to make a save. 61 minutes into the match, Ferreira Lopes MZC's goal looked a bit too open when Filiph Biörling came free, but Tomé Montenegro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ferreira Lopes MZC's Tomé Montenegro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Filiph Biörling in the 61st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pipis Karapatakis in the 64th minute of play forced Ferreira Lopes MZC's goalkeeper Tomé Montenegro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 76th minute, Filiph Biörling got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 78 minutes into the game, Ronaldo Alcântara cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Jardel Sanches was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Grêmio FBPA's Ted Hoogenkamp was substituted for Diamantino Cabral. Pipis Karapatakis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomé Montenegro having to interfere. Tomé Montenegro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pipis Karapatakis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 88 minutes into the game, Ronaldo Alcântara cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Jardel Sanches was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Grêmio FBPA lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
