Rick Souness fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kazimierz Wielkopolski having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Elderslie Magpies's goalkeeper Christian Kerville had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Michael Miels. Kazimierz Wielkopolski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Neal Weatherby in the 19th minute of play. Karl Howarth might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Christian Kerville. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Steven Chaptal to make the kick off. Christian Kerville stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Afloroaiei's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute.
