Daniele Bucciarelli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fulvio Muzzolon in the 5th minute of play. NAPOLI's Achille Albanesi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dinei Fernandez in the 14th minute of play. In the 20th minute of the match, Fulvio Muzzolon tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Daniele Bucciarelli saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Merceron United's Daniele Bucciarelli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciccio Bassani in the 25th minute of play. Merceron United's Dinei Fernandez got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Dinei Fernandez's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Achille Albanesi was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. If Richard Nixon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of S.S.C. NAPOLI booed when Merceron United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fedele Bassi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniele Bucciarelli was a little too slow when Ciccio Bassani got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 33rd minute. The score was now 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fulvio Grande in the 37th minute of play forced Merceron United's goalkeeper Daniele Bucciarelli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Merceron United fans' excitement grew in the 38th match minute when Merceron United's Dinei Fernandez looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Fulvio Grande blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Daniele Bucciarelli having to make a save. Daniele Bucciarelli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ciccio Bassani in the 46th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

NAPOLI's Achille Albanesi got control of the ball when Edoardo Pascucci tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 62nd minute, Martin Österlund hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daniele Bucciarelli showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fulvio Muzzolon, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Fedele Bassi hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. S.S.C. NAPOLI made a substitution. Dave Pierucci replaced Richard Nixon. In the 68th match minute, Merceron United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fedele Bassi to maneuver through the defense. 75 minutes into the match, Merceron United's goal looked a bit too open when Dave Pierucci came free, but Daniele Bucciarelli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dinei Fernandez in the 77th minute of play forced S.S.C. NAPOLI's goalkeeper Achille Albanesi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 82nd minute, Dave Pierucci made a precise shot to the right of Daniele Bucciarelli. Merceron United's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. If Ciccio Bassani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dave Pierucci in the 87th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Daniele Bucciarelli saved Merceron United from getting behind. Achille Albanesi stood somewhat misplaced when Dinei Fernandez came free in front of goal and shot 3-2 to the left of him in the 88 minute. Biagio Donadoni hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. The supporters of S.S.C. NAPOLI booed when Merceron United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Biagio Donadoni didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dave Pierucci's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Daniele Bucciarelli read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. S.S.C. NAPOLI were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Merceron United for a fine match.
