The tension between the Barcelona de América and the Loja S.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 97th minute the ball was on its way in behind Loja S.C.'s goalkeeper Ismael Rossell, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Barcelona de América eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
