In the 3rd minute of the match Colo-Colo got a corner. La Academia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Honorio Droguett ran over to the corner to take the kick. A hard shot 6 in the game by Robby Woody from a close distance when the talented Eladio Escalona managed to make a qualified save. Colo-Colo's players were relieved. In the 7th minute Ivo Basay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iwan Grocholski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Colo-Colo's Eladio Escalona played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gong Peng Bo in the 17th minute of play. Colo-Colo's Ivo Basay got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gong Peng Bo in the 23rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Eladio Escalona, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. La Academia's Iwan Grocholski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ivo Basay in the 25th minute of play. 26 minutes into the match, Colo-Colo's goal looked a bit too open when Gong Peng Bo came free, but Eladio Escalona reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Iwan Grocholski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Honorio Droguett in the 29th minute of play. Eladio Escalona showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Francisco Alberto Zañartu, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. After 35 minutes of play, Colo-Colo's Ivo Basay made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Iwan Grocholski was left in no man's land by his defense there! 38 minutes into the match, La Academia's goal looked a bit too open when Ivo Basay came free, but Iwan Grocholski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 43rd minute, Carlitos Caszely made a precise shot to the right of Iwan Grocholski. La Academia's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Ivo Basay received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Iwan Grocholski tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ivo Basay made a kick off. Eladio Escalona made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gong Peng Bo in the 51st minute of play. In the 54th minute Ivo Basay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iwan Grocholski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, La Academia's Iwan Grocholski got control of the ball when Ivo Basay tried to sneak it across the goal line. La Academia made a substitution. Eric Sillén replaced Gong Peng Bo. Chano Garrido kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. Colo-Colo's Marco-Antonio Etcheverry was substituted for José Julio Almeida. In the 66th match minute, Colo-Colo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chano Garrido to maneuver through the defense. Maxín Bacarreza might have been able to make a better finish in the 67th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eladio Escalona. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Maxín Bacarreza ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 68th minute, Saul Goodman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Iwan Grocholski showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlitos Caszely, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. After some careless play in the Colo-Colo defense, Robby Woody kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eladio Escalona. The Colo-Colo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eladio Escalona should have stopped the shot. La Academia's Iwan Grocholski proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save La Academia from getting a goal against them. The La Academia supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Colo-Colo's performance. The match ended with a win for Colo-Colo.
