Alejandro Martxelin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but José Luis Chilavert read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. In the 28th minute Alejandro Martxelin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Luis Chilavert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Capo de Provincia's Héctor Barra proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to save Capo de Provincia from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when René Puente got free with Héctor Barra in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 36 minutes into the match, Capo de Provincia's goalkeeper Héctor Barra had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eulalio Callejas. 38 minutes into the match, Alejandro Martxelin notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Ballet Azul's José Luis Chilavert. José Luis Chilavert was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After the first half Capo de Provincia were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when René Puente stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. José Luis Chilavert made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Christiano Cabañas sent off a good shot on target. Eulalio Callejas kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. In the 65th minute René Puente shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Héctor Barra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Waclaw Dombrowski was slow to take the kick. During this time Ballet Azul's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Waclaw Dombrowski almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Capo de Provincia's Héctor Barra did a great save. José Luis Chilavert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Villa in the 89th minute of play. Odín Enríquez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Héctor Barra tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
