Alejandro Martxelin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but José Luis Chilavert made a huge save. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind Capo de Provincia's goalkeeper Héctor Barra, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and René Puente made a kick off. José Luis Chilavert stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alejandro Martxelin's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. Ballet Azul's René Puente suffered a concussion in the 55th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. After 55 minutes, Tao Han mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Capo de Provincia and the Ballet Azul players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Capo de Provincia getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Tao Han hit a great ball. 63 minutes into the match, Capo de Provincia's goalkeeper Héctor Barra had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eulalio Callejas. Capo de Provincia's Héctor Barra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eladio Ulloa in the 70th minute of play. In the 72nd minute Eladio Ulloa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Héctor Barra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 75 minutes into the match, Eulalio Callejas had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Héctor Barra. Capo de Provincia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Eulalio Callejas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 82nd minute Eulalio Callejas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Héctor Barra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Juan Riquelme hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. José Luis Chilavert took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juan Riquelme, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luis Jiménez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. José Luis Chilavert tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. José Luis Chilavert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Villa in the 91st minute of play. In the 95th minute Ballet Azul were awarded a corner. Waclaw Dombrowski went to the cornerflag to take it. Capo de Provincia succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Ballet Azul had controlled the match.
