When Leontin Iacobescu came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the MIT fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leontin Iacobescu couldn't finish the play. Vitko Vutev didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cauan Barros went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. In the 37th match minute, MIT was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristi Foltea to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Leontin Iacobescu got free with Claudinei Esteves in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Grêmio Santo André getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Bruno Nascimento hit a great ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Leontin Iacobescu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Claudinei Esteves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcu Voitiş in the 52nd minute of play. Claudinei Esteves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leontin Iacobescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. In the 55th minute, Leontin Iacobescu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. Marcu Voitiş took the ball and in the 71 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Claudinei Esteves. Claudinei Esteves dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-2. MIT made a substitution. Sever Dobrescu replaced Cristi Foltea. After a rather tough play, Grêmio Santo André's Cauan Barros got a free kick in the 75th minute. MIT made a substitution. Sergiu Costa replaced Emil Glodeanu. The supporters of MIT booed when Grêmio Santo André was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cauan Barros didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 77th minute of the match Petre Prislop sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Claudinei Esteves skillfully saved the ball. 81 minutes into the match, Grêmio Santo André's goal looked a bit too open when Dacian Corbu came free, but Claudinei Esteves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In a very dangerous position, a player in Grêmio Santo André fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 94th minute. Penalty! The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. MIT had won after a very even match.
