The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio FBPA's zone, Stephen Duxbury stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Matías Pitta came out of the goal and Stephen Duxbury tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the Grêmio FBPA defense, Jacek Kielb kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Matías Pitta. The Grêmio FBPA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Matías Pitta should have stopped the shot. Matías Pitta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Stephen Duxbury in the 7th minute of the match. Matías Pitta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacek Kielb in the 8th minute of play. Marcin Cebula scored 0-3 in the 11th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Matías Pitta, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Stephen Duxbury scored 0-4 in the 14th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Matías Pitta, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Korona Kielce booed when Grêmio FBPA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Osvaldinho Marquez didn't get a good kick on the ball. 32 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Jacek Kielb came free, but Matías Pitta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Grêmio FBPA's Matías Pitta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maciej Korzym in the 37th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-10 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Claudinho Zonta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Waldemar Amaral during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Nial Todd was slow to take the kick. During this time Korona Kielce's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Nial Todd almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Grêmio FBPA's Matías Pitta did a great save. Enrique Pires's late challenge caught a Korona Kielce's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Enrique Pires hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. 80 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goalkeeper Matías Pitta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jacek Kielb. In the 83rd minute, Korona Kielce's Marcin Cebula ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Matías Pitta. Matías Pitta yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-15. Grêmio FBPA's Matías Pitta proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save Grêmio FBPA from getting a goal against them. Matías Pitta made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Marcin Cebula sent off a good shot on target.
