After a defensive mix-up in Sporting de Gijón's zone, Paulo Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Desiderio Frederik came out of the goal and Paulo Neves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Desiderio Frederik made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luís Fernando Esteves in the 9th minute. Desiderio Frederik came out of the goal in the 10th minute to try and stop a shot by Pendotiba's Cristian Hoffmann. But to his dismay, Cristian Hoffmann quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Damián Šilha's late challenge caught a Pendotiba's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Damián Šilha helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Damián Šilha hit a great ball. Desiderio Frederik made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Cristian Hoffmann sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Pendotiba defense, Blas-Armando Giunta kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ramiro Dias. The Pendotiba fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ramiro Dias should have stopped the shot. The Sporting de Gijón fans' excitement grew in the 22nd match minute when Sporting de Gijón's Blas-Armando Giunta looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Cristian Hoffmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Paulo Neves got free with Desiderio Frederik in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 31st minute Blas-Armando Giunta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ramiro Dias saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luís Fernando Esteves hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Through an outstanding action, after 36 minutes, Desiderio Frederik successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Blas-Armando Giunta got a free kick in the 37th minute. Paulo Neves might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Desiderio Frederik. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Paulo Neves ran back to his position shaking his head.

Paulo Neves recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Cristian Hoffmann fell near the penalty area in the 60th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Pendotiba's protests and gave Cristian Hoffmann a yellow card for diving instead. Cristian Hoffmann hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Pendotiba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Fernando Esteves didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sporting de Gijón's Desiderio Frederik played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Neves in the 65th minute of play. Luís Fernando Esteves kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. Sporting de Gijón's Arnoldo Ubarna was substituted for Amadeo Panpili. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Pendotiba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Fernando Esteves didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 72nd minute, Dinei Paraibano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Celedonio Kinsen came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Sporting de Gijón fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Celedonio Kinsen couldn't finish the play. Ramiro Dias took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnoldo Ubarna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 89 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Ezequiel Fernández. In the 91st minute, Sporting de Gijón's Ruslan Rudchenko seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Ruslan Rudchenko the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Sporting de Gijón protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Ruslan Rudchenko had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Desiderio Frederik had in the 93rdth minute some difficulties stopping Paulo Neves's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The excitement rose when Pendotiba's Paulo Neves after 93 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 3-2. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
