In the 5th minute, Steff Berckmans got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Lajos Vadász took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diego Maradona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 11 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Eustacio Loiola. In the 12th minute Dawid Olejarz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sporting de Gijón's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Kęstutis Survila ran over to the corner to take the kick. A very nice done corner allowed Đỗ Remi to score against Óscar Cordoba in Sporting de Gijón's goal. 0-2 after 32 minutes. Lajos Vadász made an important save on a dangerous shot by Saturnino Curcio in the 40th minute. In the 42nd minute, Dawid Olejarz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 45 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Dawid Olejarz came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Diego Maradona could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Lajos Vadász made a huge save. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when North Hill United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 48 match minutes in a wonderful position. Krzysztof Pawlak didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Rune Fanström hit a great ball. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Mario Zanabria replaced Venancio Emesto. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Rune Fanström got a free kick in the 78th minute. In the 79th minute of the match Kęstutis Survila sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Óscar Cordoba skillfully saved the ball. Rune Fanström kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. Roberto Cherro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Óscar Cordoba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Wayne Rooney's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lajos Vadász was relentless in the 88th minute of the game.
