Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mathieu Tippelt in the 3rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Uwe Ziege prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Uwe Ziege showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mathieu Tippelt, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. After 6 minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Semjon Schapiro who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Hertha 1969's corner Semjon Schapiro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Uwe Ziege quite easily take care of the ball. Björn Mokros kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. In the 17th minute Mathieu Tippelt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uwe Ziege saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 25th minute of the game. One of Hertha 1969:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Rot-Weiss-Essen:s goal. Erich Pietta had in the 26thth minute some difficulties stopping Hannes Kapell's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 26th minute, Hannes Kapell ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Erich Pietta was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 29th minute Mark Stripf shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uwe Ziege saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sascha Andre Rennert could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Erich Pietta made a huge save. In the 32nd minute, Gunther Schößler hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Erich Pietta made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Sascha Andre Rennert sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Maurizio Brink got a free kick in the 44th minute. In the 45th minute, Björn Mokros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mathieu Tippelt in the 46th minute of play forced Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Uwe Ziege to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute, Adam Jäckel ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Uwe Ziege was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. After the first half Hertha 1969 were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Adam Jäckel to strike the kick off in the second half. After 54 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Florian Hagen. Mathieu Tippelt got a fine position in front of goal ttaking advantage of the opportunity to rumble in 1-4 in the right cross in the 56th match minute before Uwe Ziege had time to react. With a little luck, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege got control of the ball when Mathieu Tippelt tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sascha Andre Rennert in the 64th minute of play forced Hertha 1969's goalkeeper Erich Pietta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Maurizio Brink hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. 67 minutes into the game, Hertha 1969's Mathieu Tippelt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Uwe Ziege made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-5. 74 minutes into the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen's goal looked a bit too open when Adam Jäckel came free, but Uwe Ziege reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Uwe Ziege had great luck who in the 74thth minute grab hold of the ball when Adam Jäckel from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. A collision led to Hertha 1969 getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Boppo Obert hit a great ball. 84 minutes into the match, Adam Jäckel dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Uwe Ziege, 1-7. In the 88th minute Björn Mokros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erich Pietta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Erich Pietta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sascha Andre Rennert in the 90th minute of the match. Dante Jakob charged in rather forcefully in the 90th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dante Jakob the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Uwe Ziege took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mark Stripf, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Uwe Ziege showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mark Stripf, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Hertha 1969 played a much better game than Rot-Weiss-Essen and deserved their victory. The Rot-Weiss-Essen players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
