The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Wes Gillespie came out of the goal in the 8th minute to try and stop a shot by Racing Miami Futbol Club's Willie Vogt. But to his dismay, Willie Vogt quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 11 minutes into the match, ForestFire's Lane Martinez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Franco Di Giambattista narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Lane Martinez's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 13thth minute, Franco Di Giambattista skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 18th minute Blair Lusk shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wes Gillespie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Franco Di Giambattista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Milo Blanco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 22 played minutes Racing Miami Futbol Club got a freekick which was hit by Glen Hoff. The supporters of ForestFire booed when Racing Miami Futbol Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Melvin Slater didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Cary Griggs managed to get in a good position for a shot. ForestFire's supporters rose to their feet, but Cary Griggs was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Franco Di Giambattista breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Racing Miami Futbol Club's Franco Di Giambattista proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Racing Miami Futbol Club from getting a goal against them. In the 34th minute Elias Isaac shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wes Gillespie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 38th minute, Glen Hoff hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 39 minutes into the game, Lane Martinez recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Franco Di Giambattista. Lane Martinez showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-1. Wes Gillespie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lyle Macias, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute.

Wes Gillespie was a little too slow when Genaro Cassidy got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 53rd minute. The score was now 2-2. The audience was convinced that Genaro Cassidy's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wes Gillespie was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. Glen Hoff was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 61st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After 62 minutes, Hal Bonilla mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the ForestFire and the Racing Miami Futbol Club players grew even worse after the yellow card. Hal Bonilla kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Genaro Cassidy kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Wes Gillespie. That made the score 2-3 in the 63 minute of play. Wes Gillespie made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Genaro Cassidy sent off a good shot on target. Racing Miami Futbol Club's Jackson Shipley got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Genaro Cassidy took the ball and in the 69 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Wes Gillespie. Wes Gillespie dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. Genaro Cassidy could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Wes Gillespie made a huge save. ForestFire's Wes Gillespie proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 77th minute of the match, managed to save ForestFire from getting a goal against them. Wes Gillespie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jackson Shipley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 82 minutes had been played when some careless play by ForestFire's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Glen Hoff was slow to take the kick. During this time Racing Miami Futbol Club's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Racing Miami Futbol Club's Glen Hoff to fire away a dangerous shot which Wes Gillespie despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. A collision led to ForestFire getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Warner Boyer hit a great ball. Franco Di Giambattista showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lane Martinez in the 85th minute of the match. Wes Gillespie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Glen Hoff in the 87th minute of the match. The Racing Miami Futbol Club fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-5. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Racing Miami Futbol Club eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
