The supporters of Gremio Viana booed when Ponte do Carro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nuno Sanches didn't get a good kick on the ball. Heitor Horta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aparício Taborda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 19 minutes into the match, Altino Guerreiro notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Gremio Viana's Silvino Morais. Silvino Morais was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a defensive mix-up in Ponte do Carro's zone, Adelino Lopes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Heitor Horta came out of the goal and Adelino Lopes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Altino Guerreiro in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Silvino Morais prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Eusébio Leão could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Silvino Morais made a huge save. When Adelino Lopes came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Gremio Viana fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adelino Lopes couldn't finish the play. Veríssimo Taveira hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. After 39 played minutes Gremio Viana got a freekick which was hit by Lourenço Passos. Altino Guerreiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 46 played minutes Gremio Viana got a freekick which was hit by Salvador Resende. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Eusébio Leão to strike the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Ponte do Carro defense, Adelino Lopes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Heitor Horta. The Ponte do Carro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Heitor Horta should have stopped the shot. Jesualdo Soveral's late challenge caught a Gremio Viana's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jesualdo Soveral helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Ponte do Carro getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Jesualdo Soveral hit a great ball. Adelino Lopes might have been able to make a better finish in the 74th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Heitor Horta. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Adelino Lopes ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, Ponte do Carro's Heitor Horta got control of the ball when Adelino Lopes tried to sneak it across the goal line. Silvino Morais made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alexandre Lucena in the 78th minute of play. The supporters of Gremio Viana booed when Ponte do Carro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nuno Sanches didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 84th minute, Hildeberto Póvoas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Heitor Horta made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adelino Lopes in the 86th minute.
