An unexpectedly hard shot by Loic Deal in the 10th minute of play forced Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goalkeeper Marco Beauchesne to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Brice Leach showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mario Gleason, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Manual Hope's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brice Leach read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Randell McCullough's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marco Beauchesne was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. Mario Gleason might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Brice Leach. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mario Gleason ran back to his position shaking his head. Brice Leach made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mario Gleason in the 26th minute of play. Brice Leach didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Manual Hope went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 35th minute Mario Gleason shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brice Leach saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 36 minutes into the match, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Manual Hope sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Brice Leach narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Brice Leach took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mario Gleason, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Varennes's Brice Leach played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mario Gleason in the 42nd minute of play. Mario Gleason charged in rather forcefully in the 44th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mario Gleason the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mario Gleason to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Mario Gleason managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's supporters rose to their feet, but Mario Gleason was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brice Leach breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Sport Lisboa e Benfica getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Will Donovan hit a great ball. The Varennes manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Sport Lisboa e Benfica to win.
