The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Cirilo Frichoso had in the 7thth minute some difficulties stopping Gerardo Oinatz's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After some careless play in the Merengue FC defense, Gerardo Oinatz kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cirilo Frichoso. The Merengue FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cirilo Frichoso should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Merengue FC's zone, Armando Beltza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cirilo Frichoso came out of the goal and Armando Beltza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 12th match minute, Merengue FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benjamin Semeno to maneuver through the defense. In the 16thth minute of the game Armando Beltza who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Merengue FC's Cirilo Frichoso was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Armando Beltza took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cirilo Frichoso. Cirilo Frichoso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Jose Victoro scored 1-2 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benigno Ilazki, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jose Victoro hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Amancio Tallia kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Cirilo Frichoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Armando Beltza's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. 32 minutes into the match, Armando Beltza notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Merengue FC's Cirilo Frichoso. Cirilo Frichoso was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armando Beltza in the 36th minute of play forced Merengue FC's goalkeeper Cirilo Frichoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benigno Ilazki showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jose Victoro in the 48th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Merengue FC's Cirilo Frichoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Conrado Nisio in the 79th minute of play. Conrado Nisios short, quick shot in the 80thth minute got Cirilo Frichoso to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. When Marco Lonzo was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 82 minutes had been played. Conrado Nisio might have been able to make a better finish in the 84th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cirilo Frichoso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Conrado Nisio ran back to his position shaking his head. Benigno Ilazki showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eustaquio Iraido, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Jose Victoro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benigno Ilazki read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 88th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Gerardo Oinatz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mainumby's supporters rose to their feet, but Gerardo Oinatz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cirilo Frichoso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Conrado Nisio in the 97th minute of play forced Merengue FC's goalkeeper Cirilo Frichoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Conrado Nisio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 99th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match was over Mainumby could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Merengue FC throughout the match.
