In the 18th minute Albertinho Cavalcante shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Augusto Recife saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Olivedos's Patrick Miranda got control of the ball when Tião Tróia tried to sneak it across the goal line. Carlos Augusto Recife stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Deivid Cavalcante's shot from short distance in the 29th minute. Palmeiras's Carlos Augusto Recife played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Christiano Travassos in the 30th minute of play. When Perivaldo Furlan, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 40 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Patrick Miranda was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. 44 minutes into the game, Perivaldo Furlan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Palmeiras's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Olivedos the free kick. Olivedos's Antônio Carlos Valadares couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 45th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Palmeiras. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Tião Tróia got a free kick in the 46th minute. Carlos Augusto Recife made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Albertinho Cavalcante in the 47th minute of play.

The wind increased when Amadeo Tuste made the kick off in the second half. Olivedos's Christiano Travassos got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Patrick Miranda showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amadeo Tuste, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. After 64 minutes of play, Olivedos's Albertinho Cavalcante made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net.
