The referee ordered Tião Tróia off the ground. After 33 played minutes Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by Tião Tróia. During the 44th minute of the match Ali Erdem Özalpsan completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Ali Erdem Özalpsan a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Palmeiras's supporters rose to their feet, but Perivaldo Furlan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Palmeiras's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Michel Sergipano's late challenge caught a MALZBIER's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
