The audience was convinced that Eliézer da Silveira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cláudio Taffarel was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. In the 38th minute Eliézer da Silveira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cláudio Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 46 minutes of play, Castanheiro SC's Eliézer da Silveira made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cláudio Taffarel was left in no man's land by his defense there! Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Eliézer da Silveira to strike the kick off in the second half. Castanheiro SC were awarded a corner in the 53th minute after Noroeste Paulista's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Célio Pena took the corner. Cláudio Taffarel had great luck who in the 78thth minute grab hold of the ball when Leonardo Trancoso from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliézer da Silveira in the 79th minute of play forced Noroeste Paulista's goalkeeper Cláudio Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 83rd minute, Eliézer da Silveira ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cláudio Taffarel was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. Noroeste Paulista's Raí Custódio was substituted for Raimundo Reis. The crowd rose to their feet as Castanheiro SC's Eliézer da Silveira slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Cláudio Taffarel. That made the score 1-5 after 95 minutes of play. The Noroeste Paulista fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Castanheiro SC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
