The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 7th minute of the game. One of Vascogoianiense FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Galo do Japi:s goal. Bernardo Corrêa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronaldo Joinvilense's shot from short distance in the 16th minute. 17 minutes into the match, Galo do Japi's goal looked a bit too open when Waldemar Ortiz came free, but Armando Sabino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldo Joinvilense in the 20th minute of play forced Vascogoianiense FC's goalkeeper Bernardo Corrêa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ronaldo Joinvilense succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-0 in the 23rd playminute. Bebeto Leal hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 5-0 at half-time.

A sloppy throw-in by Bebeto Leal in the 52nd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Galo do Japi's Laerte Caca-Rato. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Hélder Trigo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Galo do Japi's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
