After a defensive mix-up in U21 Hungary's zone, Fred Renteria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Balázs Hujber came out of the goal and Fred Renteria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 19 minutes into the match, U21 United States's goal looked a bit too open when Viktor Bodrogi came free, but Nelson Insfrán reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Csaba Kossuth could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Nelson Insfrán made a huge save. After 26 minutes U21 United States's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Zoltán Solti who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Zoltán Solti almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 United States's Nelson Insfrán did a great save. U21 United States's Fred Renteria got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 31st minute Fred Renteria shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Balázs Hujber saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Balázs Hujber made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lanny Valle in the 40th minute of play. 44 minutes into the match, U21 Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Manuel Stepanyan came free, but Balázs Hujber reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arno Martirosyan in the 69th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Balázs Hujber saved U21 Hungary from getting behind. The U21 United States fans' excitement grew in the 69th match minute when U21 United States's Arno Martirosyan looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Balázs Hujber came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 United States's Lanny Valle. But to his dismay, Lanny Valle quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. When Endre Vas fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Hungary's protests and gave Endre Vas a yellow card for diving instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lanny Valle got free with Balázs Hujber in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
