When the match clock showed 9 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Jean-Marc Coquerel sped through Larsen's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Cipriano Isusko. In the 14th minute, Fabiano Borel ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cipriano Isusko was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Jean-Marc Coquerel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Cipriano Isusko tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 18th minute, Lyon's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Melquiades Sugar fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Melquiades Sugar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Jâninho Potiguar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 30 minutes, Jean-Marc Coquerel made it 1-3 with a short kick to the right side. Cristoforo Di Loreto took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Cipriano Isusko. Larsen's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After the first half Lyon were leading 1-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nestor Ostadar to make the kick off. Jean-Marc Coquerel who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 55thth minute tested the skills of Cipriano Isusko when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Jean-Marc Coquerel's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 56thth minute, Cipriano Isusko skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. With a little luck, Larsen's Cipriano Isusko got control of the ball when Jean-Marc Coquerel tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabiano Borel in the 70th minute of play forced Larsen's goalkeeper Cipriano Isusko to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With his leg Cipriano Isusko managed to avoid a goal in the 72ndth minute, when Lyon's Jean-Marc Coquerel fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Jean-Marc Coquerel took the ball and in the 75 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cipriano Isusko. Cipriano Isusko dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-7. Cipriano Isusko made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jean-Marc Coquerel in the 78th minute. Larsen were furious when Oscar Argoitz was red carded, 86 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 85th minute of the game. One of Larsen:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Lyon:s goal. The goalkeeper, Cipriano Isusko, was totally fooled by Lyon's Fabiano Borel, who 87 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. After a rather tough play, Lyon's Cristoforo Di Loreto got a free kick in the 89th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Jean-Marc Coquerel kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cipriano Isusko. That made the score 1-10 in the 92 minute of play.
