Grimmu Tröllin's Georg Hannesson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jean-Marc Coquerel in the 5th minute of play. A collision led to Grimmu Tröllin getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Skúta Ákason hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Grimmu Tröllin defense, Fabiano Borel kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Georg Hannesson. The Grimmu Tröllin fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Georg Hannesson should have stopped the shot. 19 minutes into the match, Grimmu Tröllin's goal looked a bit too open when Jean-Marc Coquerel came free, but Georg Hannesson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 23rd minute, Fabiano Borel made a precise shot to the right of Georg Hannesson. Grimmu Tröllin's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. 29 minutes into the match, Jean-Marc Coquerel notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Grimmu Tröllin's Georg Hannesson. Georg Hannesson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Georg Hannesson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jean-Marc Coquerel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jean-Marc Coquerel took the ball and in the 33 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Georg Hannesson. Georg Hannesson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. Georg Hannesson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jean-Marc Coquerel, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Skúta Ákason fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jâninho Potiguar having to interfere. After 41 minutes of play, Lyon's Jean-Marc Coquerel made it 0-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Georg Hannesson was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 45th match minute, Grimmu Tröllin was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sigmundur Sveinsson to maneuver through the defense. Cristoforo Di Loreto took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 45th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Georg Hannesson. Grimmu Tröllin's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fabiano Borel was the one to do the kick off. When Lyon's Jean-Marc Coquerel in the 52nd minute got a chance for a shot 52nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Jean-Cyrille Bellot sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lyon's Jâninho Potiguar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Skúta Ákason in the 60th minute of play. Fabiano Borel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Georg Hannesson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 69th minute, Jean-Marc Coquerel left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lyon fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-7. Grimmu Tröllin's defense didn't have a chance, in the 73rd minute, when Fabiano Borel scored to the left of an out of position Georg Hannesson, making the score, 0-8. Hagbarður Nikulásarson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jâninho Potiguar having to interfere. Jean-Marc Coquerel received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Georg Hannesson came out and tried to block the shot, but Jean-Marc Coquerel slotted it home off the left post making it 0-9 in the 79th minute. In the 84th minute, Jean-Marc Coquerel ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Georg Hannesson was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-10. When Lyon's Jonas Botte in the 86th minute got a chance for a shot 86th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Grimmu Tröllin's goalie prevented a goal. In the 92nd minute Jonas Botte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Georg Hannesson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jean-Marc Coquerel in the 94th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Georg Hannesson saved Grimmu Tröllin from getting behind. After 95 played minutes Grimmu Tröllin got a freekick which was hit by Skúta Ákason. Lyon's Alain Mainguet shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 96th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Georg Hannesson but with some difficulty. Lyon's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
