Mirko Brink's late challenge caught a Sanfrecce Hiroshima's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mirko Brink helped the player get up and apologised. Mirko Brink hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Fouad Al-Jazairia scored 0-1 in the 16th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Philipp Flecken, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Sanfrecce Hiroshima booed when Hansa Rostock was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Christen Reisch didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Hansa Rostock's zone, Kasdi Harkouk stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Philipp Flecken came out of the goal and Kasdi Harkouk tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ahmed Mazzid struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Philipp Flecken didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sanfrecce Hiroshima. A collision led to Hansa Rostock getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Otfried Oberacher hit a great ball. 32 minutes into the match, Hansa Rostock's goal looked a bit too open when Kasdi Harkouk came free, but Philipp Flecken reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 40th match minute, Hansa Rostock was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Achaz Kühn to maneuver through the defense. In the 46th minute, Christen Reisch hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half Sanfrecce Hiroshima were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ahmed Mazzid to make the kick off. Mansour Harkouk was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mirko Brink in the 58th minute of play forced Sanfrecce Hiroshima's goalkeeper Mansour Harkouk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ahmed Mazzid sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 72nd minute, Fouad Al-Jazairia left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sanfrecce Hiroshima fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. In the 75th minute Christen Reisch shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mansour Harkouk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ahmed Mazzid received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Philipp Flecken tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mansour Harkouk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Achaz Kühn in the 93rd minute of play. Sanfrecce Hiroshima played a much better game than Hansa Rostock and deserved their victory. The Hansa Rostock players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
