Isak Jacobsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Niklas Bäck in the 18th minute of play. After having played for 23 minutes, Sebastian Käller managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sweden's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sebastian Käller was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 24th minute Sebastian Käller shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dick Melander saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sebastian Käller sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Dick Melander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sebastian Käller, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Sebastian Käller might have been able to make a better finish in the 33rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dick Melander. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sebastian Käller ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 33rd minute Sebastian Käller shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dick Melander saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sebastian Käller scored 0-1 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dick Melander, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dick Melander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sebastian Käller, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After the first half Sweden were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The audience was convinced that Sebastian Käller's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dick Melander was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. Joacim Hansson was slow to take the kick. During this time Sweden's players had a chance to rest. It was a well-played corner which Henrik Berg managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Dick Melander took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ivar Lindqvist, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 83 minutes into the game, Sweden's Joacim Hansson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dick Melander made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Dick Melander made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ivar Lindqvist in the 87th minute of play.
