Rot-Weiss-Essen's Octavian Basten was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 4th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven Nordkvist in the 10th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 12 minutes, Anestis Kotsopoulos took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Lars Norberg to make any attempt to save it. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sven Nordkvist in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Uwe Ziege prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Kaj Hård fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uwe Ziege having to interfere. spikarna's Lars Norberg proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save spikarna from getting a goal against them. 22 minutes into the match, Sven Nordkvist notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege. Uwe Ziege was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 25 minutes into the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen's goal looked a bit too open when Witomir Ziomkowski came free, but Uwe Ziege reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Lars Norberg made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hugo Haupt in the 27th minute. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Witomir Ziomkowski in the 30th minute of play. In the 31stth minute of the game Sven Nordkvist who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sven Nordkvist received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Uwe Ziege tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Uwe Ziege, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sven Nordkvist in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Uwe Ziege saved Rot-Weiss-Essen from getting behind. In the 41st minute, Maximilian Henning hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After recieving a nice pass, spikarna's Christoffer Hansson tried to score from far away in the 42nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.
52 minutes into the match, spikarna's goal looked a bit too open when Mesut Özil came free, but Lars Norberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Rot-Weiss-Essen's Octavian Basten in the 57th minute got a chance for a shot 57th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After a rather tough play, spikarna's Sven-Erik Blomkvist got a free kick in the 60th minute. Maximilian Henning's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lars Norberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 61st minute of play. Lars Norberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Octavian Basten in the 66th minute of play. After 67 played minutes spikarna got a freekick which was hit by Atakan Pepe. When the match had gone on for 70 minutes, Hugo Haupt put it in 3-2 from a short distance just to the right of Lars Norberg. spikarna's Lars Norberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Octavian Basten in the 74th minute of play. 76 minutes into the match, spikarna's Sven Nordkvist sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Uwe Ziege narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 78 minutes into the match, spikarna's goal looked a bit too open when Octavian Basten came free, but Lars Norberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 79th minute of the match Rot-Weiss-Essen got a corner. spikarna's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Maximilian Henning ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Maximilian Henning got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Lars Norberg quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Lars Norberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kryspin Banach, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lars Norberg made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-3. For all the effort they put into the match, the spikarna players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Rot-Weiss-Essen.
