Hamburger SV's Balko Schiewerling played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cătălin Ispas in the 3rd minute of play. If Karsten Bath had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. Rifov SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Hamburger SV the free kick. After a rather tough play, Rifov SC's Fabian Ţiţeica got a free kick in the 6th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Hamburger SV's Karsten Bath slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ionel Barbălată. That made the score 1-0 after 10 minutes of play. When Christoph Butenweg fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hamburger SV's protests and gave Christoph Butenweg a yellow card for diving instead. Karsten Bath fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ionel Barbălată having to interfere. Cătălin Ispas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Karsten Bath received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Ionel Barbălată tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Karsten Bath recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Karsten Bath came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Hamburger SV fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Karsten Bath couldn't finish the play. Ionel Barbălată took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Karsten Bath, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cătălin Ispas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Martin Cămărășan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hamburger SV's Sebastian Kullig got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Balko Schiewerling was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Cătălin Ispas showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 61 minute of play. Sebastian Kullig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Ionel Barbălată tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee gave Hamburger SV a penalty, 68 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Endrik Bauermeister, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Rifov SC's Ionel Barbălată. 2-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sebastian Kullig in the 70th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ionel Barbălată saved Rifov SC from getting behind. If Martin Cămărășan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Martin Cămărășan succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-2 in the 78th playminute. In the 87th minute, Cătălin Ispas fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Balko Schiewerling, passed just outside the right post. Emil Marissen kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. 93 minutes into the match, Hamburger SV's goalkeeper Balko Schiewerling had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Martin Cămărășan. If Cătălin Ispas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
