Yngve Fredriksson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Christian Passos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 8 played minutes Djurgårdens IF got a freekick which was hit by Kennet Forsman. 13 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Karl-Åke Termander. In the 15thth minute of the game Karl-Åke Termander who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 18 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goal looked a bit too open when Karl-Åke Termander came free, but Ronaldo Medeiros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Karl-Åke Termander kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ronaldo Medeiros. That made the score 1-1 in the 24 minute of play. The supporters of Djurgårdens IF booed when Montevideo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mário Maranhense didn't get a good kick on the ball. Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karl-Åke Termander in the 29th minute of play. Yngve Fredriksson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christian Passos in the 32nd minute of play. 32 minutes into the match, Djurgårdens IF's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Passos came free, but Yngve Fredriksson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luisito Antequera in the 36th minute of play forced Djurgårdens IF's goalkeeper Yngve Fredriksson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ronaldo Medeiros stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Karl-Åke Termander's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. 41 minutes into the match, Karl-Åke Termander had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ronaldo Medeiros. Montevideo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Karl-Åke Termander was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1.

The wind increased when Christian Passos made the kick off in the second half. 莫剑彬 hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. 56 minutes into the game, Djurgårdens IF's Karl-Åke Termander nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ronaldo Medeiros made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Karl-Åke Termander in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ronaldo Medeiros prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Karl-Åke Termander in the 61st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ronaldo Medeiros saved Montevideo from getting behind. Yngve Fredriksson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christian Passos, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Karl-Åke Termander scored 4-1 in the 69th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ronaldo Medeiros, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. With an all-out effort, Montevideo's Yngve Fredriksson threw himself towards the right post 95 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Christian Passos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Djurgårdens IF fans cheered their team off the field, for while Montevideo had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
