After a defensive mix-up in Estudiantes de América's zone, Tibor Surovec stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcos Ranolfo came out of the goal and Tibor Surovec tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kraig Fred in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dezider Šindelka prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Marcos Ranolfo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tibor Surovec in the 21st minute of play. In the 23rd minute, Estudiantes de América's Kraig Fred dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. 27 minutes into the match, Estudiantes de América's goal looked a bit too open when Tibor Surovec came free, but Marcos Ranolfo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Estudiantes de América's Marcos Ranolfo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan Plocek in the 30th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Tibor Surovec managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Barcelona's supporters rose to their feet, but Tibor Surovec was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcos Ranolfo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 35th minute Chico Pirok shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Ranolfo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to FC Barcelona getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Dragan Horčička hit a great ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Traian Blăniță hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Andrej Karásek blasted a shot towards the goal in the 99th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcos Ranolfo having to make a save. Estudiantes de América's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
