In the 5th minute of the match Sporting de Gijón got a corner. Konurbano Atletico's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Saturnino Curcio ran over to the corner to take the kick. Sporting de Gijón's Rune Fanström was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Teobaldo Demario in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 7 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Ronaldo. In the 8th minute Konurbano Atletico were awarded a corner. Prospero Perutxo went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Prospero Perutxo got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Óscar Cordoba quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Óscar Cordoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raimundo Estavan, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. In the 12th minute, Cristian Ronaldo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Sporting de Gijón's Wayne Rooney was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Raimundo Estavan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio got a free kick in the 54th minute. In the 76th minute, Wayne Rooney got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sporting de Gijón's Mario Zanabria was substituted for Venancio Emesto. In the 84th minute Prospero Perutxo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Teobaldo Demario was out of position in the 88 minute of play, and Matias Bilintx capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Matias Bilintx really showed his touch with that goal: 1-2. A hard shot 92 in the game by Matias Bilintx from a close distance when the talented Teobaldo Demario managed to make a qualified save. Konurbano Atletico's players were relieved. Wayne Rooneys short, quick shot in the 93rdth minute got Teobaldo Demario to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Matias Bilintx took the ball and in the 95 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Teobaldo Demario. Teobaldo Demario dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Sporting de Gijón's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
