The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Braulio Gartxot made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Naike in the 3rd minute of play. If Marcel da Rocha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcel da Rocha in the 5th minute of play forced Vélez Juniors's goalkeeper Elpidio Vitin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tiburcio Quinteros got free with Braulio Gartxot in the 7th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 8th minute Bernardo Sayvion shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Braulio Gartxot saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marcel da Rocha in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Elpidio Vitin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Red Devils's Braulio Gartxot proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Red Devils from getting a goal against them. Braulio Gartxot was a little too slow when Cristian Naike got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 24th minute. The score was now 1-0. If Marcel da Rocha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vélez Juniors's goalkeeper Elpidio Vitin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Vélez Juniors getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Celedonio Eriz hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Marcel da Rocha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Elpidio Vitin was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. In the 45th match minute, Red Devils was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kazimierz Deyna to maneuver through the defense. Braulio Gartxot acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 46th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Santos Fonda. After 47 minutes, Kazimierz Deyna mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Red Devils and the Vélez Juniors players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Red Devils's Kazimierz Deyna got a free kick in the 47th minute.

Marcel da Rocha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 62 minutes into the match, Vélez Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Marcel da Rocha came free, but Elpidio Vitin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vélez Juniors's Elvio Checa was substituted for Tiburcio Quinteros. Vélez Juniors's Donato Efraim was substituted for Alberto Joey. 68 minutes into the match, Red Devils's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Naike came free, but Braulio Gartxot reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Marcel da Rocha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With an all-out effort, Red Devils's Elpidio Vitin threw himself towards the right post 71 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Marcel da Rocha, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Braulio Gartxot showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elvio Checa in the 76th minute of the match. Red Devils's Braulio Gartxot played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Naike in the 81st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcel da Rocha in the 84th minute of play forced Vélez Juniors's goalkeeper Elpidio Vitin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marcel da Rocha in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Elpidio Vitin saved Vélez Juniors from getting behind. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
