But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tobiasz Lichorobiec couldn't finish the play. 7 minutes had been played when some careless play by Philadelphia Union FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gaitán Frost was slow to take the kick. During this time Lagunillas AFC's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Lagunillas AFC's Gaitán Frost to fire away a dangerous shot which Dmytro Zhak despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felipe Rojas in the 9th minute of play forced Philadelphia Union FC's goalkeeper Dmytro Zhak to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 15th minute, Francisco Alberto Laso de la Vega left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lagunillas AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 18 minutes into the game, Yevgen Romanenko was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Philadelphia Union FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lagunillas AFC the free kick. After a rather tough play, Philadelphia Union FC's Yevgen Romanenko got a free kick in the 18th minute. Tobiasz Lichorobiec received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Aldo Abeliuk came out and tried to block the shot, but Tobiasz Lichorobiec slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 20th minute. Francisco Alberto Laso de la Vega took the ball and in the 25 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dmytro Zhak. Dmytro Zhak dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Lagunillas AFC's Aníbal Cruz quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Tymur Drabenyuk, made in the 37th minute of the game. Dmytro Zhak showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francisco Alberto Laso de la Vega in the 39th minute of the match. When Tobiasz Lichorobiec fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Philadelphia Union FC's protests and gave Tobiasz Lichorobiec a yellow card for diving instead. After having played for 43 minutes, Jacobo Jofre managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lagunillas AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jacobo Jofre was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tiburcio Ascencio during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Philadelphia Union FC's Bernát Bíró got a free kick in the 45th minute. Jacobo Jofre sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The wind increased when Tobiasz Lichorobiec made the kick off in the second half. A sloppy throw-in by Aníbal Cruz in the 50th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Philadelphia Union FC's Oleg Petrunya. If Felipe Rojas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aldo Abeliuk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tobiasz Lichorobiec in the 54th minute of play. When Philadelphia Union FC's Tobiasz Lichorobiec, in the 54th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Philadelphia Union FC. Aldo Abeliuk stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tobiasz Lichorobiec's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. Yevgen Romanenko hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Lagunillas AFC's Felipe Rojas got a free kick in the 57th minute. In the 60th match minute, Lagunillas AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aníbal Cruz to maneuver through the defense. Philadelphia Union FC's Myroslav Zanevskyi was substituted for Tobiasz Lichorobiec. Philadelphia Union FC's Viktor Nakonechnyi was substituted for Orest Syvukha. After a rather tough play, Lagunillas AFC's Aníbal Cruz got a free kick in the 62nd minute. In the 65th minute, Benicio Dechent hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lagunillas AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Philadelphia Union FC the free kick. Maxín Salcedo kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Lagunillas AFC's Aldo Abeliuk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Myroslav Zanevskyi in the 69th minute of play. Bernát Bíró's late challenge caught a Lagunillas AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bernát Bíró helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Philadelphia Union FC getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Bernát Bíró hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felipe Rojas in the 72nd minute of play forced Philadelphia Union FC's goalkeeper Dmytro Zhak to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Francisco Alberto Laso de la Vega got free with Dmytro Zhak in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 75th match minute, Philadelphia Union FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernát Bíró to maneuver through the defense. Dmytro Zhak came out of the goal in the 77th minute to try and stop a shot by Lagunillas AFC's Francisco Alberto Laso de la Vega. But to his dismay, Francisco Alberto Laso de la Vega quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. With a little luck, Philadelphia Union FC's Dmytro Zhak got control of the ball when Silviano Schlubach tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Francisco Alberto Laso de la Vega in the 87th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dmytro Zhak saved Philadelphia Union FC from getting behind. In the 89th minute of the match Lagunillas AFC got a corner. Philadelphia Union FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gaitán Frost ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Gaitán Frost almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Philadelphia Union FC's Dmytro Zhak did a great save. 93 minutes into the match, Lagunillas AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Myroslav Zanevskyi came free, but Aldo Abeliuk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
The Philadelphia Union FC fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Lagunillas AFC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
