The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Uwe Ziege showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 9 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Birk Tritz. Aquiles Leonidas scored 0-1 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Uwe Ziege, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Erkan Fostiropoulos took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luís Fábio Silveira. Luís Fábio Silveira dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Uwe Ziege made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Luiz Teles in the 22nd minute of play. Gunther Schößler hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. In the 23rd minute of the match Aquiles Leonidas shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Uwe Ziege showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 25th minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Ebbo Böse ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Luís Fábio Silveira. Luís Fábio Silveira yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. Luís Fábio Silveira made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ebbo Böse in the 29th minute. In the 30th match minute, Flamengo FSCMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Rezende to maneuver through the defense. In the 36th match minute, Flamengo FSCMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Franklin das Neves to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ebbo Böse in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luís Fábio Silveira prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 38 minutes into the game, Aquiles Leonidas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. Uwe Ziege was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The audience was convinced that Aquiles Leonidas's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Uwe Ziege was relentless in the 44th minute of the game. After some careless play in the Rot-Weiss-Essen defense, Pedro Luiz Teles kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Uwe Ziege. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Uwe Ziege should have stopped the shot. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 3-3 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Erkan Fostiropoulos to make the kick off. If Pedro Luiz Teles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 57th minute Ebbo Böse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fábio Silveira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Flamengo FSCMZ defense, Elmar Assing kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Luís Fábio Silveira. The Flamengo FSCMZ fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luís Fábio Silveira should have stopped the shot. Luís Fábio Silveira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ebbo Böse in the 62nd minute of play. In the 64th minute Ebbo Böse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fábio Silveira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Björn Mokros got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Uwe Ziege stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Aquiles Leonidas's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Erkan Fostiropoulos suffered a sprained foot after 81 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When Marco Fonseca fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Flamengo FSCMZ's protests and gave Marco Fonseca a yellow card for diving instead. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Hannes Kapell was substituted for Erkan Fostiropoulos. In a very dangerous position, a player in Flamengo FSCMZ fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 80th minute. Penalty! In the 84th minute there was a penalty for Rot-Weiss-Essen. Helmut Malinowski stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Luís Fábio Silveira. 5-3. Luís Fábio Silveira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ebbo Böse in the 88th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ebbo Böse in the 91st minute of play forced Flamengo FSCMZ's goalkeeper Luís Fábio Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 95th minute, Hannes Kapell left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 6-3. In the 98th minute, Hannes Kapell made a precise shot to the right of Luís Fábio Silveira. Flamengo FSCMZ's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 7-3. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans cheered their team off the field, for while Flamengo FSCMZ had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
