Uwe Ziege made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aquiles Leonidas in the 11th minute of play. Uwe Ziege showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pedro Luiz Teles in the 12th minute of the match. The supporters of Flamengo FSCMZ booed when Rot-Weiss-Essen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vasco Jackisch didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vasco Jackisch charged in rather forcefully in the 16th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vasco Jackisch the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Vasco Jackisch hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. In the 19th minute Ebbo Böse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fábio Silveira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Uwe Ziege showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aquiles Leonidas, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. In the 24th minute Pedro Luiz Teles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uwe Ziege saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Vasco Jackisch got a free kick in the 27th minute. In the 31st minute, Elmar Assing left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 34thth minute of the game Erkan Fostiropoulos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Flamengo FSCMZ's Luís Fábio Silveira was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luís Fábio Silveira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ebbo Böse in the 43rd minute of play. Luís Fábio Silveira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elmar Assing, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Flamengo FSCMZ's Luís Fábio Silveira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elmar Assing in the 46th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 51st match minute, Flamengo FSCMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marco Fonseca to maneuver through the defense. Erkan Fostiropoulos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Fábio Silveira having to interfere. 60 minutes into the match, Flamengo FSCMZ's goal looked a bit too open when Vasco Jackisch came free, but Luís Fábio Silveira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute, Ebbo Böse ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Luís Fábio Silveira was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Aquiles Leonidas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Uwe Ziege read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. After 71 minutes, Marco Fonseca mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Flamengo FSCMZ and the Rot-Weiss-Essen players grew even worse after the yellow card. 70 minutes into the game, one of Flamengo FSCMZ:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When Rot-Weiss-Essen's Erkan Fostiropoulos in 72 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Luís Fábio Silveira guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. After 72 minutes, Erkan Fostiropoulos made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. Flamengo FSCMZ's Luís Fábio Silveira tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. If Aquiles Leonidas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pedro Luiz Teles couldn't finish the play. When Flamengo FSCMZ's Aquiles Leonidas in the 97th minute got a chance for a shot 97th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Although Flamengo FSCMZ had been in control for most of the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen still came away with the win.
