Otmar Elsner made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. After a rather tough play, Borussia Brasov's Cornel Demian got a free kick in the 74th minute. Vladimir Jeneks got a throw-in 78 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Anjo Kölzig. Murat Dobrindt hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Cristinel Ştefulescu helped the player get up and apologised. In the 91st minute, Anjo Kölzig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Ted Habbel fell near the penalty area in the 93rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gelsenkirchener jungs's protests and gave Ted Habbel a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Gelsenkirchener jungs's Ted Habbel got a free kick in the 94th minute. Otmar Elsner showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marian Alungulesei, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. The Gelsenkirchener jungs supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Gelsenkirchener jungs would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
