Wellington Phoenix's supporters crossed their fingers, but 詹俊 á Bø was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Wellington Phoenix getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Jaume Roure hit a great ball. U21 Brazil's Thiago Motta got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Guilherme Souza took the ball and in the 19 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luiz Paulo Mazza. Luiz Paulo Mazza dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. The supporters of U21 Brazil booed when Wellington Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Horácio Pedroso didn't get a good kick on the ball. Guilherme Souza struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Luiz Paulo Mazza didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Brazil. Gigio Buffon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from 詹俊 á Bø in the 25th minute of the match. In the 40th minute of the match, Guilherme Souza tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Luiz Paulo Mazza saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After 71 minutes of play, U21 Brazil's Kléberson Mazza made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Luiz Paulo Mazza was left in no man's land by his defense there! Luiz Paulo Mazza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elói Alcântara, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Elói Alcântara in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luiz Paulo Mazza saved Wellington Phoenix from getting behind. Gui Catarinense charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gui Catarinense the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Gigio Buffon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from 詹俊 á Bø, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zé Carlos Dias kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match.
